I am currently an assistant professor at Sonoma State University in
the Curriculum Studies and Secondary Education department in the
School
of Education. I have the luxury of working with both
pre-service teachers in the single subject credential program and
in-service teachers enrolled in a Master's program in educational
technology. I have taught middle school, high school and
college-level students for over a decade, and I have worked in and
collaborated with small schools, montessori schools, public and
independent schools, and charter schools.
I made this website using
ning.com and, even though I had to take my own advice
and adapt the mindset of "failing" over and over again during its
creation, I would suggest that educators test out these kinds of
sites and see how they can and cannot support your teaching and
learning.
On a personal note, I was raised in northern California in a town
called Sonoma. My parents still live there and I now work at the
state university in the area. I went to UC Berkeley as an undergrad
and was a softball player. I had coached soccer while in high
school and saw a future in athletics, and one day my softball coach
suggested that I should be a teacher. For some reason I had not
made the connection that teaching and coaching were similar
professions just in different settings. I then went to grad school
in education at Berkeley and earned a single subject credential in
English/ELL and a MA. I taught middle school and then high school,
and then returned to Berkeley for the doctoral program six years
later.
